In addition to the activities that can be done inside the Resort, the Ragusa area, along with the Val di Noto, is rich in architectural gems and boasts very interesting archaeological sites. Thanks to the Sicilian culture, there are many exhibition and folkloristic events inspired to the different peoples who have followed each other during many dominations.
Be sure not to miss the nearby Donnafugata castle, a Medieval palace with sumptuous rooms, among which the Salone degli Specchi (namely the Hall of Mirrors) and the magnificent park full of different kinds of vegetations. A perfect set for some scenes of movies as “Il Gattopardo” and “I Viceré”.
In Ibla, Ragusa’s ancient historic center, there isthe Cathedral of San Giorgio, quite renowned todaythanks also to the successful television series “Il Commissa-rio Montalbano”, based on a character created by the writer Andrea Camilleri.
Noto is the cradle of the Sicilian Baroque with itsmajestic San Nicolò Cathedral and the famous “Infiorata”, the flower festival, an annual event that ta-kes place in May that should not be missed. Special gastronomic features await you in Modica, where chocolate is still prepared today according to the ancient Aztec recipe.
Not far away from the seaside resorts of Don-nalucata and Sampieri, the town of Scicli still maintains rituals and traditions dating back to theSaracen era. Kamarina, Caucana and Cava d'Ispica are interestingarchaeological sites to visit, while Punta Secca is the charming fishing village where you canfind the house of Montalbano.
